Makara sankranthi formally Know as Pongal|Ladies dhunia
Sankranthi is formally known as Pongal...!! which was celebrated every year of january as one of india's ancient festival..:!! From the starting of the month of pongal festival people will fill rangolis in thier homes...!!!on this month of sankranthi HARIDASU goes from house to house and singing songs...!!!HARIDASU was a very professional sanskriti scholar,successors were now currently working as prime priest in badhrachalam rama mandir...!!!
According to my knoweledge in south india mainly in AP and Telangana areas it wsa the big festival of the year...!!!this festival was celebrated in 4 days named as BHOGI,SANKRANTHI and KANUMA....!!!
It is very precious festival which was celebrated by whole families and get together with joy and happiness ....!!
Why we will celebrate bhogi??? what is the special of the day BHOGI???
On BHOGI people will pray for Lord Indra who was the god of rain...!!!on BHOGI day farmers worship lord indra to getting blessings for plenty of crops which will give wealth and success..!!! on BHOGI day people will light the bonfires with wood and old wooden furniture which are not be used in...!!!
On next day of BHOGI people will celebrate SANKRANTHI which was the main festival day in 4 days of pongal...!!! On SANKRANTHI people will worship the SURYA BHAGAVAN this significance of surya is traceable to vedic texts,particularly the gayatri mantra,a sacred hymn of hinduism found in this scripture named Rigveda...!!! on SANKRANTHI day people take's head bath and wear new dresses and then made a sweet with jaggery and worship the god of sun...!!
On next day of SANKRANTHI people will celebrate KANUMA which was the 3 day festival of the pongal...!!!KANUMA is the festival of cattle...!!! On KANUMA day the farmers will worship the cattle's which were the part of thier success and wealth in agricultural activities....!!!The day also signifies the lifting of the Govardhana hill by lord krishna to protect the people nad cattles's of gokulam...!!Kids will play with kites on this pongal days....!!!
On next day KANUMA people will celebrate MUKKANUMA which was the 4th and final day of SANKRANTHI festival...!!!On mukkanuma people cook non veg dishes and take a feast and enjoy all the day with joy....!!!

In ANDHRA PRADESH there is a place called BHIMAVARAM which was famous in some traditional and fun games like chicken bets,playing cards and more in SANKRANTHI...!!! Comparing to other areas in AP,Bhimavaram is the most famous place for these fun celebrations of SANKRANTHI...!!!
These sankranthi was celebrated in different ways, different cultures with different names in different states of India...!!!
